so i attemped to pull apart a 3-speed internal geared hub for the first time ever today at work. i must say i was quite thrilled with the challenge. This is a very popular hub called a Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub with coaster brake. An amazing piece of equipment that works so well. The model I was working on was the TCW III made back in 1971!!! The customer brought it in. the chain that comes out of the axle had broken off and the brake wasn’t working. It was a blast. A couple of parts need to be replaced. Unfortunatley the vendor’s we get parts from at the shop don’t have what I need. I will do further investigating tomorrow. Prolly call up my old service manager who now works at Penn Cycle. I wish more of this old skool stuff would come in more often. Tomorrow we turn over to our summer hours at the shop and the remodel is finally finished just in time for it to get crazy go nuts!!! I gotta be honest, I am in no way ready mentally for the insane amount of stress to come in the next couple weeks that will stay with me through August. I am going into year two being a service manager. Last year was quite a challenge. Everything was new. With one year under my belt now I think about how to improve myself and the shop. Will I make the right desicions? Scheduling?(although most of it done my Dan-O) Turnaround time improved? Time will tell. I got the Salsa under 22lbs the other day. 21.6lbs. with two cages on it!!!! To those of you who aren’t bike guru’s, thats FUCKING light. And I could go lighter if i wanted to. Not right now though. Good ride this morning. Can’t wait to get out friday afternoon in the 50 DEGREE weather we’re supposed to get. Stomach’s not feeling to hot tonight. I think I’ll turn in early. Love. Peace. and Bicycle Grease.
